The new map feature with the seamless zoom into zone - We like the concept, and we like when the sector perimeter gets circled in when you click the icons.
What we don’t like: The boulder icons are FAR too small. Even when you’ve got the whole perimeter visible, sometimes you have to zoom in like 2-3 times to even see the individual boulders. This is a huge barrier to orientation for visitors. You cant get a sense for where you are if youre so zoomed that you can only see 1/7th of the territory.
The Public tick list - on my iphone I cant open the total ticklist for an area as we could on the previous app. Its a great way for developers to see who’s visiting your areas. One could click the visitors name and redirect to the visitors profile, where you could get an overview of all the problems they climbed, their reviews and comments. That’s golden stuff for developers. Not only cant I open the list, but I cant click names anywhere. It was really difficult to find what problems had recently been ticked without the total tick-list, and when i eventually did find the individual and the problem, clicking the visitors name wouldn’t redirect me to their profile.
More details map view: When you enter the description area for a problem there is a new and likely useful feature “location” . If you click you are redirected to a map that shows the exact location, but from there you can’t revert back to the sector. You have to close the whole window, locate the area on the main map, and find your way back to the sector that way. No bueno.
Love the AUTODETECT and display toppos visible on the map view. That’s a really intuitive and useful touch.
Color coding for difficulty: An argument could have been made for keeping the same colors as before, but that’s nothing major. I do like the new colorband under toppos that show the difficulty distrobution. That’s cool.
New scroll view on toppo: We like the croll window to view all photos of that block, and it shows the lines, too, but it doesn’t fill any function since there are no names, nore grades, and without that information you might as well take away the lines because they dont say anything on their own.
We don’t like not being able to scroll between toppo images from different sectors as we could in the old app. It was nice to just be able to scroll through full screen images of all the boulders in the area.
With the update I was hoping for more developer tools. Like, why do I still have to visit the browser to delete photos? Why cant I rearrange sectors in the mobile app? Why is it so hard to delete unwanted toppos? These are the things that matter most to me, I would say.
Unfortunately I have a lot more to say for the negative than the positive and that’s because It’s easier to see what’s missing than what’s new and improved, so time will have to tell what new features really work.
